AB Music Department Car Wash August 25th

The annual Fall Band, Chorus and Orchestra Car Wash fundraiser takes place Saturday, August 25th. (Rain date August 26th).

Students will sign up via band camp sign up sheets, Orchestra and Chorus students should sign in at event!   All Students are strongly encouraged to participate.

We are looking for parent volunteers to supervise, drink coffee and provide a smile. If you are available, please respond with which 2-hour shift you prefer by clicking on the link here: Volunteer to Supervise – have fun and drink coffee!

Students wash . . . Parents supervise!

Please also indicate if you can bring your generator, snacks, drinks and other goodies to help make the day a fun and successful fundraiser for the Music students.

Remember to bring your car(s) for a wash/vacuum!

Ask your child when they are coming to volunteer and you can sign up for that time too! It’s a great way to spend time with our kids and support our music program!

Save the Date – Saturday September 22, 2018

The ABRHS Marching Band will be celebrating it’s Diamond or 60th Anniversary this coming school year and we will be celebrating in style.

Plan on coming to a Saturday afternoon football game and enjoy a special tribute during halftime celebrating 60 years of the AB Marching Band and then watch your 2018 AB Marching Band perform “Night Watch”

Who: All AB Marching Band Alumni
What: AB Football Game Halftime Show and Postgame Celebration
When: Saturday, Sept 22, 2018, 1:00p Kickoff
Where: ABRHS Leary Field, Acton MA
Why: Bring your instrument and join the fun!

Reach out to all your AB Marching Band Alumni friends (young and old) and tell them to dust off their instruments and meet you at the game. We are planning a special AB Band Alumni rendition of Children of Sanchez.

Also in the works is a post-game Musical Rewind celebration. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks.

Sign up for Chaperone and Uniform Help at Band Camp

Band camp is August 20-24 at AB High School and rapidly approaching!  We need many hands to ensure a safe and fun week for the students!  We’re looking for chaperone and uniform help.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done it, Uniform and Chaperone Coordinators will be on hand to show you what needs to be done and answer questions. You don’t need any special skills, and we’d love to have new volunteers. If you can only help for a few hours – we would love to have you!

What is involved?

Camp runs 9 am-9 pm Monday through Thursday, and 9 am-3 pm on Friday with an end of camp party at NARA Park starting at 3. Each day, we’ll need chaperones, uniform fitters, extra hands for other tasks as well as help with sewing.

Chaperones:
Our primary goal is to keep the kids safe. Chaperones stay with the kids during the course of the day and are available to help out the kids or the staff if needed. The day is split into 3 shifts where we need typically need more help in the mornings and evenings. Morning and evening sessions are usually at Leary Field, and afternoon sessions are usually inside the High School though the schedule can change if the weather does not cooperate or as for Monday afternoon with the viewing event. Please be flexible with your plans.

Hospitality help:
ABFOM also hosts a pizza party for the kids on Monday during the dinner break and a few extra hands are appreciated. This means you do not have to plan a Monday dinner for your marching student as they will eat at the school and enjoy a fun time with their new friends!

Uniform Fitters:
We’ll need to fit over 100 kids with uniforms during this time, so the Uniform Committee is in need of many people to help. You do not need to know how to sew for this task. Our Uniform Coordinators will be on hand to show you what you need to do. (P.S. The chorus room is air conditioned – MANY hands are needed so come join us.)

Uniform Sewing:
If you have sewing skills, we need help with things like hemming pants or other light alterations. If you do not have a CORI, you can take the uniforms home or we can drop them off for you. Again – many hands are needed!

Band Photos:
Friday morning the Band will have a photo session and a few extra hands are needed to coordinate the students with their group photos, etc.. and a great perk is that you get to snap a few of your own shots of the students all spiffed up!

Party Chaperones:
Friday afternoon is the end of camp party at NARA. We’ll need chaperone help there both on the beach, volleyball area, and at the pavilion.

Band Information

The packet of 2018-2019 Band Information is ready! This contains tons of important information about band camp, the 2018-2019 schedule, uniforms, ABFOM and much more. Please read it carefully and fill out the required forms. The forms are due by Monday, July 23rd so don’t delay.

Band

  • Band camp: August 20th to August 24th – more details coming later with Band Camp package.
  • Sunday, August 19th. Band Freshman and New student meeting (**STUDENTS ONLY**) -plan to be back in town to join a pre-camp meeting hosted by the AB Band student leaders. The student leaders will share the meeting time and location with each freshman directly, but plan for a meeting that day.
  • Wednesday August 22nd– “Band101” – 7 PM – RJ Grey Band Room
    • Mandatory Informational meeting for incoming & New Band Parents/Guardians. Plan on at least one (1) parent/Guardian attending. (** Parents/Guardians Only**)
  • Monday September 3rd – Marlborough Labor Day Parade – details coming later.

Chorus

  • Monday, August 27th – Chorus Camp – Chorus students will receive more information from Ms. Moss, but plan to be back in town to attend.

ALL

  • Saturday, August 25th – ABFOM Car wash – look for sign up details at the beginning of August – Chorus, String and Band Students are required/encouraged to participate (fun day!) with Volunteer parents. Proceeds support the Music programs.
  • Tuesday, September 11th – ABFOM General Meeting – 6 PM ABRHS Auditorium – Students will be performing followed by ABFOM101 and General meeting.

Time to renew your CORI

REMINDER – All CORI forms must be renewed this year!

This is a reminder that everyone will need to have a new CORI Form completed this year.

If you had your form updated after January 1st 2018, then your form is good for the new 3 year period. All others need to be updated for the new 3 year cycle- no exceptions.

The absolute BEST TIME to get your CORI updated is NOW before school is in summer recess.

Simply stop by the AB High School front office – open from ~7 am to ~4 pm (or any other school in the AB School district) with a government issued Photo Identification document such as drivers’ license, passport, state Identification, etc. and complete the Form

CORI’s do not transfer between entities such as your church, and your employment, to the AB school district however the CORI for ABFOM is good across the entire AB School district.

We will need volunteers for Band & Chorus Camp including new freshmen parents, so do not delay. During the summer, the office has previously been open from ~7 am to 2 pm.

New Graduates – if you are 18, and you are thinking to help volunteer at Band Camp, please complete the CORI form now as well. We love to have our Student Volunteers but we must follow the school, state and Federal laws.
